This is a new personal blog. I aim to use it to document projects, project ideas, observations and thoughts.
In November 2022, I finished up my time at HPE Australia. For HPE, Australia was almost exclusively a sales and support region. However, after entering a new role as a Presales/Solutions Architect (formally “Data & AI Specialist”) for the local Ezmeral team, I quickly realised that this side of the industry wasn’t for me. I could sell and devise solutions pretty damn well. I confidently can state I would have aced the role. But no where in my work was I feeling that joy of that can only come of invention. Of devising solutions to problems others had written off long ago. Of breaking habituation and forming new, innovative ways of doing the everyday. I realised that this was not an average attitude to have. Others within my part of the organisation didn’t think this way.
Being in enterprise sales teaches you an unbelieveable amount about the many aspects of life, from the psychology of people to how money changes hands. I’ve told anyone who’s ever asked that I learned more at HPE than I did at any other time in my life.
I came to realise that I strongly value creative collaboration of people who, regardless of their background, observe the world around them and are unable to be content with it. They believe they can make it better. They need to make it better. They can’t help it. I know I can’t. And, if any great technological advancement of the past century tells us anything, it’s that when you get a diverse group of people who carry this attitude aligned towards solving a common goal, amazing things can happen.
So, I opted to travel Europe for two months and return to develop a portfolio of creative projects. Whilst I do so, I will seek any and all opportunities to join or lead teams where I can not only fulfil my intrinsic desire to creatively invent, but support and encourage others to do the same.
